MINISTER FOR EU AFFAIRS AND CHIEF NEGOTIATOR EGEMEN BAGIS IN LONDON... BAGIS GAVE A SPEECH AT LSE

As a part of his visits in London, the capital city of England, the Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis made a speech titled “Creating a Common Future Together: Towards a Visionary Europe” in London School of Economics (LSE), one of the leading universities of the United Kingdom.

 

Bagis, who made a speech at the conference organized by the “Contemporary Turkish Studies” Center of LSE said: “Today, we must discuss the future of Europe. Europe must be a cosmopolitan, multicultural, multilingual and multi-faith union. Although it has been going through hard times both economically and politically, the EU is the biggest peace project in the history of humanity and that’s why, Turkey intends to be a member of this Union”.


Around 50 Jean Monnet scholars attended to the conference. In accordance with the statistics, since 1990, the most preferred country by JM scholars is Great Britain and the most preferred university is London School of Economics (LSE). Int he framework of Jean Monnet Scholarship programme, till now, 143 scholars out of around 1.300 preferred LSE. When we have a look at the numbers for the current academic year of 2011-2012, 76 scholars out of 100 are studying in Great Britain and 11 of them are at LSE.


This conference on February 29, 2012, which is delivered by Bagis at one of the leading universities of an EU country which is mostly preferred by JM scholars, emphasizes the importance of Turkey’s young population and their being the considerable team workers in Turkey’s way for the full membership to the EU
